2022-04-30 Monty Halls Great Escape

Presenter and EXPEDITIONMEDIA member, Monty Halls, has spent six months on the tiny island of Benbecula in the Uists, a string of rocky outcrops in the North Atlantic, separated from the mainland by the ‘Minch’ strait., in the Outer Hebrides, filming his second BBC Great Escape programme. The first, based in Applecross on the west coast of Scotland, focused on his attempt to live like a crofter.

Around three and a half million viewers tuned in and tourism in Applecross increased by 1,000 per cent. This year, the Uists are hoping for their share of the action, when Monty turns his back on city life once again, this time to become a countryside ranger.

Congratulations to Monty on another great series!

2022-04-16 Dr Dougal the Volcano Expert

Expedition Media member Dr Dougal Jerram (Presenter/Scientist) is being used by the BBC and other news networks to provide an explanation for the current Icelandic volcanic eruption phenomena.  With a contagious enthusiasm for all things “rock”, as well as years of experience in the field, Dougal has an ability to explain complex scientific principles in streetwise, layman’s terms.

A team from Expedition Media filmed Dougal as he visited, scanned and climbed into ‘Etre Ale’ volcano in the Danakil Depression, Ethiopia – which is officially the hottest place on earth!

2022-03-30 EXPEDITION MEDIA Team return from the Arctic

After a full month travelling from south to north Norway, the team finally arrived at ‘71 Degrees North’ - the most northern point of Europe, deep within the Arctic Circle.  Having endured weeks of endless hours of walking through deep snow, climbing mountains, camping, long skidoo rides and even a spell of reindeer herding, all in temperatures that dipped to below -30c it was a huge accomplishment.

Filming in such conditions is hard work, mostly due to the amount of personal kit each person had to wear – it’s not a case of being uncomfortably cold, it’s about preventing losing your fingers, toes and nose!

The crew was made up of 3 British crews: Richard Farish, Lloyd Williamson, Mungo, Mark Owen, Mike Carling & Mat Adams, who worked alongside 4 Norwegian crews.  It was a testament to great team work that despite the trials and tribulations of such an expedition that the crew worked together – sharing tips and tricks, putting aside any sense of competition, resulting in some stunning footage and great TV.

The Team worked under the watchful eye of Alex Bohanna from Remote Trauma, who ran the expedition Health & Safety.

Congratulations to all involved!

2022-02-22 EXPEDITION MEDIA Team hit Norway
