1.2 million people die each year in car accidents, the majority of which occur in developing countries. The exploration and production of hydrocarbons requires companies to operate in many of these areas. Whilst the Oil and Gas industry is continually striving to reduce the risk through the introduction of excellent driver safety training programs, they can never predict the actions of another driver, the weather or completely reduce the risk of a roll over due to the terrain.
In a remote location managing a victim entrapment situation presents us with additional difficulties: for example, accessing appropriately equipped rescue services, which are often nonexistent. Remote Trauma has developed a much needed, practical course instructing personnel how to safely handle and use specialist rescue equipment whilst extricating and stabilizing the occupants. Medical and Technical aspects of road traffic collision and entrapment rescue are taught.
