Bestselling author, adventurer and TV presenter, Simon has a passion for travel, history, current affairs, wildlife and the environment. As the presenter of the acclaimed TV series Tropic of Capricorn, Equator, Explore, Places That Don’t Exist and Meet the Stans, Simon has travelled to scores of countries for the BBC. After starting work as a teenage postboy on a national newspaper, Simon spent more than five years as the youngest staff writer on the paper. He left to write books, including The New Jackals: Ramzi Yousef, Osama bin Laden and the Future of Terrorism (published in 1998, this was the first book on al Qaeda and became a New York Times bestseller), and One Day in September: the story of the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre and Israeli revenge operation ‘Wrath of God’, which accompanied an Oscar-winning documentary movie of the same name. His most recent book is Tropic of Capricorn: circling the world on a southern adventure. Simon has received a One World Broadcasting Trust award for an ‘outstanding contribution to greater world understanding’.
